CSC/DVS Signs Distribution Agreement for Intelsat's Global Maritime Solution

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Intelsat, Ltd., provider of fixed satellite services worldwide, announced the signing of a multi-year distribution agreement with Corporate Satellite Communications (CSC/DVS) for Intelsat’s (News - Alert) Network Broadband Global Maritime service.

With the agreement, CSC/DVS’s customers will benefit from the Intelsat Network Broadband Global Maritime service’s always-on broadband connection and automatic beam-switching technology, on monthly fee basis.

Also, Intelsat Ltd., has announced the launch of its new Network Broadband GLOBAL Maritime service, the latest addition to Intelsat’s GlobalConnex portfolio of services, as well as the signing of a multi-year distribution agreement with Schlumberger (News - Alert).

Intelsat said its solution is bringing new levels of bandwidth capabilities to the maritime industry and it is ideally suited for maritime fleet management and oilfield service providers seeking global data and voice connectivity regardless of their fleet or maritime structure location.

Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service utilizes C-band capacity provided via three ocean-region satellites, Intelsat 602 at 178ºE, Intelsat 707 at 307ºE and Intelsat 906 at 64ºE. Intelsat’s robust terrestrial network, which includes hubs at Fuchsstadt, Germany, and Riverside, Calif., completes its seamless global network.

“CSC/DVS recognizes that cost-effective bandwidth available for at-sea communication services and unique service offerings are attractive to the potential maritime market of over 12,000 vessels,” said Charles Sackermann, Jr., CEO of CSC/DVS. “These vessels are seeking onboard broadband services to address crew welfare and operational advancement tools.”

“We recently signed a large contract with a Greece-based shipping company and are implementing Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service to all its vessels. The captain on one of its vessels stated, ‘My family is much happier now because they can talk freely with me every night no matter where I am out at sea. The crew members are also overjoyed with the service,’” said Sackermann.

“Our customers serving the maritime industry are seeking a global and affordable broadband solution that is able to handle bandwidth-intensive advanced IP applications while at sea,” said Jay Yass, Intelsat’s Vice President, Network Services. “Our Network Broadband Global Maritime service offers customers the ability to roam the world with seamless connectivity and a robust quality of service capability that manages bandwidth efficiencies across multiple vessels.”

The Intelsat Network Broadband service provides customers with faster-than-DSL connectivity, anywhere in the world via Intelsat’s satellites, teleports and fiber network. Intelsat’s Network Broadband service is an iDirect (News - Alert)-based platform for multi-location businesses that demand a seamless platform for converged applications.
