U.S. Coast Guard Deploys KVH TracPhone V7 Satellite Communications on Two Cutter Classes

The U.S. Coast Guard reportedly has selected the TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband service from KVH Industries, Inc., on two cutter classes.
KVH Industries officials said that the company’s integrated antenna and service solution is now offering increased bandwidth, reduced operating costs, and seamless coverage in key operational areas for the Coast Guard vessels.
“We are extremely proud to be supporting the men and women of the United States Coast Guard as they carry out vital missions around the globe,” said Martin Kits van Heyningen, chief executive officer, KVH, in a statement.
Heyningen said that real-time, reliable communications are critical, both to the operational safety and effectiveness of these vessels but also to the morale of their crews.
“We are grateful for the trust and confidence that the Coast Guard has shown in KVH, our rugged TracPhone hardware, and our global satellite communications network,” he said.
According to the company officials, the mini-VSAT Broadband service, along with the KVH TracPhone V7 antenna, comprise the first end-to-end 24-inch VSAT antenna, service, and support package available for maritime communications.
The company officials claimed that seven secure earth stations around the globe, together with seven of the world’s most powerful communications satellites, bring affordable, high-speed Internet connections and crystal clear voice service to maritime customers through the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband network.
Middletown, RI-based KVH Industries, Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiary, KVH Europe A/S, are providers of in-motion satellite TV and communications systems, having designed, manufactured, and sold more than 150,000 mobile satellite antennas for applications on vessels, vehicles, and aircraft.
KVH’s mission is to connect mobile customers around the globe with the same digital television entertainment, communications, and Internet services that they enjoy in their homes and offices.
Back in October KVH Industries had announced that it has received new orders totaling $10.2 million for its precision fiber optic gyros for use in remote stabilized weapon stations from two major defense contractors.
Shipment of these orders is expected to be completed before the end of the first quarter of 2010.
