Gilat officials said that the company is providing a Gilat SkyEdge II broadband satellite communications network covering more than 3,500 rural sites nationwide to Telefonica del Peru.

Telefonica del Peru is a subsidiary of Telefonica Latinoamerica, one of Latin America’s telecommunications operators serving tens of millions of customers in 15 countries.
The company officials said that the SkyEdge II VSAT network will deliver broadband Internet services to remote areas of Peru, enabling citizens to benefit from email, fast web searches, streaming video content, e-commerce, and research related to health care, education and housing.

According to the company officials, SkyEdge II, with optimized voice-over-IP telephony, assures voice quality, grade-of-service and efficiency for all telephony needs by guaranteeing bandwidth for the duration of the call and minimizing jitter to deliver toll-grade quality.

“For years, we have benefited from each new generation of Gilat VSAT satellite technology. As the latest generation, the highly efficient SkyEdge II platform helps us offer our customers the broadest range of communications services, at compelling economics,” said Seneca De La Puente Estremadoyro, director of network systems, Telefonica del Peru, in a statement.

Estremadoyro said that SkyEdge II is the latest example of how new technologies from Gilat enable the company to deploy new service offerings, while ensuring long-term cost containment, company officials said.

“We are pleased to once again partner with one of Latin America’s leading telcos to help improve the lives of rural consumers and help drive the development of businesses throughout the country,” said Russell Ribeiro, regional vice president, Latin America, Gilat.

Ribeiro said that by taking advantage of the company’s latest technology advancements, decades of VSAT expertise and local service and support, the region’s telcos can continue to offer reliable broadband networking to their customers anywhere, at any time.
Deployment of the network for Telefonica del Peru is well underway.
