Globalstar Expands Coverage into Parts of Western Asia and Deep Ocean Trans-Atlantic Region

Globalstar, Inc., a provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments and consumers, reportedly has completed installation of network upgrades designed to enhance the overall customer messaging capacity and the data receiver sensitivity of the Globalstar (News - Alert) Simplex data network.
In a release, Globalstar officials said that the upgrades have also resulted in the overall expansion of Globalstar's Simplex data network coverage.
Globalstar now offers Simplex coverage in previously un-served areas including parts of Western Asia and numerous maritime coastal and oceanic regions plus continuous northern hemisphere coverage across the Atlantic Ocean.
The increased receiver sensitivity resulting from the network upgrades not only expands Globalstar's geographic Simplex coverage area but it also offers enhanced reliability in certain usage environments and operating conditions.
The Globalstar Simplex data network is used to support a variety of emergency asset, fleet management and personal tracking applications.
"Globalstar's new network upgrades expand our current Simplex data subscriber messaging capacity by as much as 10 times, thereby increasing the size of the customer base that we can support for our high quality and affordable M2M asset tracking and SPOT Satellite Messenger products and services," said Peter Dalton, chief executive officer, Globalstar, Inc, in the release.
Dalton said that the implementation of these upgrades and the resulting coverage expansion also demonstrates the company’s commitment to broadening the domestic and international markets for the M2M Simplex data enterprise product solutions.
In October TMCnet reported that Globalstar has signed a distribution agreement with MJ Fein & Company Mid-Atlantic LLC of East Hanover, NJ, a manufacturer's representative company specializing in the distribution of electrical utility products.
With the signing of the sales representative agreement, MJ Fein will now represent Globalstar while distributing Globalstar's satellite-based remote automated utility meter reading interface (MRI) solution, designed to communicate with meters located in areas not served by terrestrial-based wireless or landline systems.
