WebTech Wireless' NextBus Real-time Passenger Information Service Launched under the Name STL Synchro

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Societe de Transport de Laval (STL) has officially launched WebTech Wireless’ (News - Alert) real-time passenger information service under the name STL Synchro. The launch includes the installation of 80 NextBus electronic display bus stop signs. WebTech Wireless Inc. develops, manufactures and supports end-to-end wireless solutions that improve the productivity, profitability, environmental compliance and safety of vehicle fleets.

The launch of STL Synchro is the largest such deployment in Canada. In a release, Owen Moore, COO of WebTech Wireless, said the STL Synchro project is an example of how NextBus can be released to the public in a short period of time. Moore also thanked the Societe de Transport de Laval for their confidence in WebTech Wireless’ product and people, their work on selection and installation, and their vision for enhancing the rider experience.

Electronic bus stop signs are one of the prominent elements of the NextBus system (branded under STL Synchro). These signs directly serve transit users and also help promote the convenience of the system to potential users. Electronic bust stop signs have been installed at the system's busiest stops to display up-to-the-minute bus arrival and schedule information that helps transit users save time and improve convenience and safety. In addition to the signs, it is also possible to access bus arrival information for all of the 2,580 STL bus stops via Smartphones and the internet. It is even possible to sign-up for automatic alerts and updates.

Scott Edmonds, president and CEO at WebTech Wireless, said NextBus is an integral part of WebTech Wireless' Telematics for the Planet initiatives. Also, the fact that cities like Laval are moving quickly to adopt WebTech Wireless’ technology proves that they see it as an effective way to improve and increase transit usage, reduce traffic congestion and meet the goals of reducing CO2 emissions and pollution in cities.

The suite of WebTech Wireless applications integrates GPS, wireless communications technologies and the Internet to provide real-time information about the location and status of vehicles and mobile resources. The solutions from WebTech Wireless are based upon industry best practices and support the diverse needs of vehicle management, including automatic vehicle reporting, mapping, vehicle maintenance, driver status, in-vehicle telemetry, reporting, messaging, in-vehicle navigation and internet connectivity.
