Comtech Subsidiary Receives $1 Million Order

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Comtech EF Data, a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp, has received a $1 million order to provide satellite communications equipment.

Officials with Comtech said that a government agency will utilize the equipment to support its satellite-based communications network requirements.

Company officials said that the order includes the CSAT-5060 C-Band transceivers and the CLNA C-Band low noise amplifiers.

The CSAT-5060 C-Band Transceivers feature superior phase noise performance and long-term reliability. Packaged in a single unit chassis, the units allow quick and easy installation, company officials pointed out.

According to company officials, the CLNA C-Band Low Noise Amplifiers are compact and rugged, making them ideal for transportable applications and severe environments, the company added.

“This order demonstrates Comtech's ability to support mission critical applications with our frequency conversion and amplifier solutions,” said Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications (News - Alert), in a statement.

TMCnet in January reported that Comtech EF Data (News - Alert) Corp has received a $1.3 million order for satellite communications equipment.

According to the company officials, a leading telecommunications operator will install Comtech’s bandwidth-efficient satellite modems to allow for cellular backhaul network expansion in South America, a region that is experiencing significant satellite bandwidth shortages.

Company officials said that specified in the order was the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem and companion redundancy switches. The CDM-625 models ordered include an array of features ideally suited to cellular backhaul applications, including DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, Drop & Insert and Low Density Parity Check codes.

In November TMCnet reported that Comtech EF Data Corp. has received a $1.2 million order for satellite modems.

A mobile operator will deploy the modems to support satellite-based cellular backhaul in Africa.

According to company officials, the order specified the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem, which is ideal for cellular backhaul applications in regions where satellite bandwidth constraints exist.

The CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem combines revolutionary technologies, including DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, low density parity check codes and the next-generation forward error correction, VersaFEC with Adaptive Coding & Modulation.

The CDM-625’s advanced technologies facilitate maximum bandwidth efficiencies.

Innovative Features Mean Major Savings for Cellular Operators Using Satellite Backhaul
With the rising cost of satellite bandwidth and the need for more of it to support an ever increasing number of voice, data and now video services, operators must seek ways to reduce both their hardware investment costs and operating expenses, especially when fierce competition forces them to provide these new services without raising their rates.
