Comtech Telecommunications has announced that its Tempe, Ariz.-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data, has received a $2.5 million order for satellite communications equipment to support a new satellite-based enterprise network for a customer in the Asia-Pacific region.

Comtech EF Data (News - Alert) manufactures a broad spectrum of satellite communications products. In addition to companion redundancy switches, the company also has to deliver DMD20 Universal Satellite Modem.

DMD20 is a standards-based modem, and supports IDR, IBS and DVB, and data rates up to 20 Mbps. Company officials said that DMD20 can be switched between 70/140 MHz operation and L-Band thanks to dual-band capability.

Additionally, it comes with a range of forward error correction, data interfaces, and software options. The DMD20 is capable of supporting virtually all satellite-based applications, including voice, video and data, said company officials.

“Given the DMD20's proven track record of facilitating satellite communications for networks globally, this customer will undoubtedly realize bandwidth efficiencies and operating expense savings,” said Fred Kornberg (News - Alert), president and CEO at Comtech Telecommunications.

Comtech Telecommunications designs, develops, produces and markets innovative products, systems and services for advanced communications solutions. The company also announced that its New York-based subsidiary, Comtech PST Corp., has received a follow-on contract award valued at $3.1 million for solid-state, high-power RF amplifiers from a major domestic medical instrumentation provider.

Earlier this month, the company announced that Comtech EF Data has won a $1.0 million order for satellite communications equipment. A government agency is expected to use the equipment to support their satellite-based communications network requirements.
