Caterpillar Renews Partnership with Orbcomm
By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor
Caterpillar Inc. has renewed its agreement with Orbcomm for satellite communication services for Product Link, their heavy equipment telematics solution.
"Caterpillar has been a customer of Orbcomm for many years and we are pleased to continue that relationship," said Marc Eisenberg, CEO of Orbcomm, in statement.
Eisenberg said that the renewal will enable Caterpillar and its customers to continue to benefit from Orbcomm's unique communications services.
“Caterpillar will also benefit from our services in the countries that we have recently added to our network, including South Africa, Ghana, and Papua New Guinea," he said.
Orbcomm is a global satellite data communications company, focused on Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications.
Recently ORBCOMM (News - Alert) announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell the assets of Stellar Satellite Communications LTD., a whol-ly-owned subsidiary that sells satellite hardware, to Quake Global, Inc., a manufacturer of M2M based satellite and terrestrial communicators.
Through this acquisition and the planned continuation of Stellar’s operations in Dulles, Virginia, QUAKE will establish an East Coast office.
This will enable QUAKE, whose headquarters are in San Diego, to expand and improve its customer service and sales efforts.
Stellar’s strong presence products tailored to the transportation and trailer tracking markets will open new market segments for quake.
Back in July ORBCOMM had announced that Komatsu Ltd. has entered into an agreement with ORBCOMM to continue providing wireless data services for their heavy equipment telematics applications.
The new multi-year agreement will build upon the successful KOMTRAX and VHMS product lines, which use the ORBCOMM network today.
